the University of Leuven Belgium (KUL) and Head of the Paediatric Neurology Department of the KUL University Hospitals. He runs the Epilepsy Program and his main scientific interest is the relationship between childhood epilepsy and cognitive development. Current epilepsy research projects include: event-related potential (ERP) study of prefrontal functions in childhood epilepsy; wireless and miniaturised electroencephalogram (EEG) systems for the detection of seizures; simultaneous ERP and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) measurement of cognitive functions in children; and new anti-epileptic drugs in childhood epilepsy. Professsor Lagae is the Holder of the 2005–2010 UCB Chair for Cognitive Disabilities in Children. He is the current President of the Belgian Pediatric Neurology Society and also serves as an elected Board Member of the International Child Neurology Association (ICNA) and the European Paediatric Neurology Society (EPNS).
